The hub of the province and the birthplace of Confederation, Charlottetown offers a diversity of sites and attractions for all. Shoppers can browse through the shops found in the Confederation Court Mall while Peakes Quay and numerous other stores found in the downtown core contain a countless variety of gift ideas. The impressive architecture of both Province House and St. Dunstan`s Basilica make up the secular centre of the city, forming the axis of old Charlottetown. Opened in 1964, the Confederation Centre of the Arts contains an art gallery exhibiting the talents of local artists and holds in its collection many works of Canadian cultural and historical significance. The annual Charlottetown Festival celebrates Canadian culture past and present with a variety of theatrical productions including the perennial favorite "Anne of Green Gables".
